Best 4 Season Backpacking Tent

09/28/2019

From cross-country trips to mountaineering in some of the planet's most brutal climates, a 4-season tent is the last line of defense between you and the elements. As a result, these tents are much stronger than their 3-seasons counterparts with fewer meshes, stronger awnings and rain flies, more resilient mast structures, and a variety of winter features. Below is a selection of the best 4-season tents of the year 2019. Due to the multiple uses, we have divided the different models into mountaineering, base camp and tree line (or a combination of two categories). For more information, see our comparison chart for Best 4 Season Backpacking Tent and shopping tips below the selection.

1. The North Face Mountain

A 4-season tent is the last line of defense between you and the elements, from off-road driving to mountaineering in some of the most brutal climates on the planet. As a result, these tents are much stronger than their 3-season counterparts with fewer meshes, awnings and stronger rain flies, more resistant mast structures and a variety of winter features. Below is a selection of the best 4-season tents of the year 2019. Due to multiple use, we have divided the different models into mountaineering, base camp and tree line (or a combination of two categories). For more information, see our comparison table for 4-season tents and shopping tips below the selection.

2. Black Diamond Eldorado

The Black Diamond Eldorado is a classic. Despite the numerous updates that have been made over the years, this single-walled two-post tent has weathered many windy winter nights and summit storms. Above all, the longevity and the quality of the construction are outstanding: it was used on Everest expeditions and has been proven for decades in alpine use. Despite the hardness, the tent weighs only 4 pounds and 8 ounces, which is almost as low as what you get with a serious mountaineering tent.

3. Hilleberg Allak 2

The above tents are built for mountaineering and high mountains. Therefore, it is a good time to introduce our favorite Base Camp / Treeline tent in the mix. Hilleberg stores are expensive in the first place. The Swedish company uses first-class materials and focuses on small details like no other brand. Unfortunately, you will not find many bargains. But that does not mean that a Hilleberg is not worth it. With 6 pounds and 2 doors and hallways, the Allak is a full-service 4-season tent that is significantly lighter than competitive models like The North Face Mountain 25. The traditional dome shape is not designed to withstand the winds heavier or heavier snow loads but she can certainly do it right.
